Reykjavík Shorts & Docs

For the tenth year running, Reykjavík Shorts & Docs will, in the last four days of January, bring you a wide variety of Scandinavian grassroots filmmaking. Demonstrating the ever-increasing availability of film as a medium to young artists, the festival is an excellent showcase of the freedoms possible to explore outside of the traditional 90 minutes of fiction we Icelanders have so spectacularly failed at over the years, as well as giving us a chance to view our national sensibilities in direct comparison with our Scandinavian neighbours. Be sure to check out ‘Yes Yes,’ María Reyndal’s examination of arranged right-of-abode marriages between Thai women and Icelandic men, as well as Ingvar Stefánsson’s anticipated ‘Chess Story’, a five-minute war between two chess players five years in the making.

When: January 27-31
Where: Bíó Paradís, Hverfisgata 54, 101 Reykjavík
