According to a new report from the police, Iceland’s oldest driver is a 102 year old man living in Kópavogur.
RÚV reports that in all 11 people 96 years or older have a valid driver’s license and that almost 300 people over the age of 90 have valid drivers licenses .
After people turn 80 in Iceland, they are legally mandated to renew their driver’s license annually. In all 4.500 people over 80 have a valid driver’s license in Iceland.
Iceland’s oldest driver was born well before Iceland gained independence. According to police he is a fun guy and had all his facts straight when he last renewed his license.
Iceland only had two cars the year the oldest driver was born and they were both shipped off the island before he turned one because they didn’t run well.

The second oldest driver in Iceland is 101 years old and lives in Fjarðabyggð. After that there’s two people, one from Reykjavík and another from Dalvík who will both turn 100 years old on their next birthday.
