Hallo Nanna,

So tell me, why is there barely any waste seperation and what you gonna do with all the trash anyways – throughing it into the volcanoes? And people say Iceland is so renewable, innovative and GREEN; why are there still plastic bags to buy at Bonus and Kronan? Pathetic.

Wiz Regards,
A German

Hallo “A German”,

Wow, big surprise, Icelanders are wasteful unsustainable assholes struggling against apathy, just like everyone everywhere.

It must be disappointing to buy into the media driven hype portraying Icelanders as peace loving hippies with progressive attitudes and then be crushed by the reality that we are just a bunch of binge drinking, crossfitting, instrument playing schlubs who voted corrupt xenophobes and hyper-capitalists into power and are standing idly by while our natural treasures are parcelled off bit by bit.

Anyway, I don’t know what happens to our trash, for all I know we DO *throw it into volcanoes. Don’t waste your time on us, try enacting change in your own backyard instead. I’m sure that there’s plenty of stuff to act indignant about in Germany.

Nanna

Hey Nanna,

Vogue says Iceland is passé and it’s all about Finland now – what do you think?

CB

Hey CB,

Traveling these days is a complicated dance of matchmaking and experimentation and it can be exhausting for a gal to strike a balance between the rough and tumble fun of traveling and the peace of a long term place to call home. Which place is right for you?!

Still, in a world full of magical sights and a culture of privileged travel obsessed fashionistas, I had to wonder if it was possible for any one country to make a lasting impression? Perhaps Iceland wasn’t as shiny as it once was, but did that mean that the diamond underneath was any less valuable?
