Here's what's happening this weekend!

We at the Grapevine have been hard at work on our shining new listings website, and it’s finally live! Take a moment to browse through, we’re very proud of it. But enough yapping, here are some of the highlight events of the weekend:

Friday

‘Morphing’ – 700IS Reindeerland Festival
700IS Reindeerland is an annual experimental film and video festival that started in East Iceland 2006, making this its tenth iteration. The bad news is that this is the last time the festival will be held at the Nordic House, so make sure not to miss it.
-Nordic House, January 22 – February 15

Rythmatik / CeaseTone
These  indie rockers from the outskirts of Iceland (Suðureyri by Súgandafjörður is their hamlet!) started taking flight last year after an appearance at Músíktilraunir, and have been playing a ton of shows since—case in point, they have another show Htomorrow at Dillon. They are joined by folk-rock band CeaseTone.

French Film Festival
The annual French Film Festival is here yet again, and there are plenty of great films on, with six to eight films shown each day during the weekend.
-Háskólabíó, January 22 – February 2, 3,900 ISK for five films

Saturday

Boogie Trouble
Disco sweethearts Boogie Trouble have a strange sense of timing, as they are hosting their New Year’s party 24 days into 2015 (not that we’re complaining). DJ Óli Dóri keeps the party going once they finish.
-Húrra at 22:00, free admission!

Hellvar / Börn / Saktmóðigur / Hemúllinn
Punk shoegazers Hellvar are heading out on a UK tour and are throwing a free gig with a few of their friends; these include electronic artist Hemúllinn, gothic deathpunkers Börn, and crustpunk mainstays Saktmóðigur.
-Gaukurinn at 22:30, free admission!

Burns Night
Ok, so Burns Night is celebrated in Scotland on January 25, but Icelanders have a habit of jumping the gun, and KEX Hostel is celebrating it over three days preceding the actual date. The usual suspects, haggis and a Scottish piper, make their appearance, as well as experimental Glaswegian folk rock band Two Wings.
-KEX Hostel, January 22-24, free admission (but not free food, folks)

Sunday

‘Worlds And Ways’ by Gunter Damisch
This is the final weekend of this exhibition, which features a selection of works by Gunter Damisch from the 1980s to 2013. On display are graphic works that Gunter has given Reykjavík Art Museum, along with a selection of his other works.
-Reykjavík Art Museum: Hafnarhús, runs until January 25

‘Flatland’ by Sirra Sigrún
This is also the final weekend of Sirra Sigrún’s ‘Flatland’ exhibit, in which she juxtaposes structural stasis with movement by integrating video with text, movement and sculpture. The exhibit’s title is a reference, among other things, to a book of the same title published in 1884 which is a satirical portrayal of the social hierarchy using the language of mathematics and geometry.
-Reykjavík Art Museum: Hafnarhús, runs until January 25
