Former Reykjavík mayor Jón Gnarr told NBC that he has not ruled out running for President of Iceland in 2016.
In an interview with the NBC News show Press Pass, Gnarr discussed a number of topics, such as his new book, GNARR: How I Became the Mayor of a Large City in Iceland and Changed the World, as well as the philosophy behind The Best Party and his term as mayor.
At the interview’s conclusion, Gnarr is asked if he would consider running for “higher office”, to which he replies, “President? No, I would not rule it out,” before bursting into laughter.
As reported earlier this month, Iceland’s current president, Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson, has announced that he will not run for re-election. Gnarr, who announced last October that he would not run for mayor again, was succeeded by Dagur B. Eggertsson in last month’s municipal elections.
