Lemons are sold out at numerous supermarket chains across the nation and suppliers are struggling as a cargo ship at Reykjavík harbour is unable to deliver lemons to due bad weather, reports mbl.is.
“Some kind of lemon fever has hit Iceland, the supply has completely dried up,” said Ólafur Níels Bárðarson at wholesale company Bananar ehf. “Everyone is doing some kind of lemon detox diet thing. It’s a bit unusual but I guess everyone goes on some detox diet after the Christmas holidays. Usually the melons, oranges and lemons are the first to go.”
Many Icelanders have taken to complaining about the lemon shortage on Facebook and Twitter, or alternatively, facebragging about the abundance of their lemon supply.
